Behavior

We expect high standards of behavior from adults and pupils at all times. We expect and encourage pupils to develop self-discipline and to exercise self-control. In a school of over 450 children some rules are essential. These are mostly matters of common sense, to ensure the safety of our children. The emphasis in the school is to praise good behavior, attitude and effort. At all times pupils are encouraged to consider, and be responsible for their own actions. The school has a positive behavior policy which is reviewed by staff on a regular basis. As parents/carers,we expect your support in reinforcing with your children the aims of our behavior policy. All members of the school team, governors, parents/carers, staff and pupils are expected to implement and abide by the Code of Conduct that is displayed throughout the school. We believe that adults are role models for behavior in our school.

Homework

Homework is set regularly. It develops from sharing a book with the youngest pupils to more formal tasks as children move through the school. We believe that homework supports and reinforces the home-school partnership, and when setting it,we seek to ensure that:

  1. It is relevant and supports the work in class.
  2. The amount set is reasonable.
  3. Marking, checking and appropriate feedback is prompt.

Parents/carers can support their children enormously in the successful completion of homework by;

  1. Making sure you know when homework is set and when it is expected to be returned.
  2. Finding a quiet place for children to do their homework.
  3. Helping with homework.
  4. Ensuring that homework is completed and handed in on time.
  5. Discuss your child’s homework with them, praising your child’s effort regularly.

A variety of types of homework are used depending on the age and ability of the pupils. These include

  1. Reading
  2. Learning spelling, multiplication tables and mental arithmetic tasks
  3. Completion of class work
  4. A piece of research on a new or familiar topic
  5. Revision for a test
  6. A piece of Mathematics, English or Science work If you need any advice about homework set, do not hesitate to speak to the class teacher who will be pleased to help
